img1As a part of Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Tropical and Infectious Disease Faculty of Medicine University of Indonesia (FMUI) has a vision to become a well known center of infectious diseases in Asia Pacific in 2010 and capable to cope with education, research, and public service demands with humanistic approach. The Educational program of tropical health and infectious diseases is held for those who will become internist or consultant. The division also concerns about education for paramedics and public. The program is given in various ways according to their level.
The division always tries to hold researches according to the development of tropical and infectious diseases knowledge as well as public concern. The topic includes clinical epidemiology, and drug clinical trials in the field of tropical health and infectious diseases. Diagnostic means for infectious diseases were also included in the topics, for example: Transcutaneous Monitoring System (Novametrix®) for time to time measurement of tissue oxygenation in severe infection, and Side stream Dark Field (SDF) for a bedside real time imaging of detail microvascularization in severe infection.
img2Various researches include A Prospective Multinational Surveillance of Hospital Acquired Pneumonia (HAP) and Ventilator-associated Pneumonia (VAP) in Adults in Asian Countries: Etiology, Clinical Outcome, and Impact of Antimicrobial Resistance which has been done completely and others, such as Effectivity and Safety of Lactobacillus reuteri Usage in Prevention of Antibiotic Associated Diarrhea and Clostridium difficile Associated Infections in Hospitalized Adult Patients which is still in progress.
The public services are given through polyclinic and inpatient ward. In order to increase the public services, Center of Infectious Disease is now being settled. In the future, the center hopefully could give high quality services in the field of tropical health and infectious diseases.
